The Convention of Scottish Local Authorities was due to meet housing minister Raymond Robertson this week to protest against what it claims is a £300 million cut in local authority housing budgets.

Scottish councils are particularly concerned at a government announcement in December that they will have to use 25% of capital receipts next year to pay off debt. This figure will rise to 50% from April 1997.

According to Cosla senior vice-president Keith Geddes, this will amount to a one-third cut in council housing.
