COSLA has welcomed the Accounts Commission for Scotland's study A Safer Place, and has indicated that councils will have to look at the proposals in the study alongside the recommendations from Lord Cullen's report on the preparation of school safety strategies and action plans.

COSLA also added that although specific grant has been made available by the Government, councils will still have to find substantial resources both in revenue and capital terms to fund their share of the work.

However, COSLA remains fully committed to the safety of all schoolchildren and risk assessment, but recognises that these approaches have to be co-ordinated, possibly through a central information facility to exchange and promote ideas on the good practice initiatives adopted by councils.
