A good announcement and a boost for independent living for a large number of Scotland's most vulnerable citizens was COSLA's reaction to the funding for supporting people announced by communities minister Margaret Curran (see LGCnet).

COSLA president Pat Watters said: 'We welcome today's announcement of funding for some of Scotland's most vulnerable people from the communities minister, it is a boost for independent living.

'Supporting People reaches a wide range of people including those who are homeless, suffer disability, the elderly and more generally people previously unable to get basic support to allow them to live independent lives in their own homes.

'This money will make a difference, it will allow councils to help enrich the lives of the most needy in their local communities and COSLA looks forward to participating fully with the Executive and service providers in the review of funding for future years.'
