The Save Our Railways Group, representing local authorities and other groups opposing rail privatisation, is mounting a challenge in the high court, BBC Radio Four's Today programme reported.

The campaign is seeking judicial review, claiming that the government has failed to keep it promise to maintain the level of passenger services. Services are being cut by the franchise director, campaign co-ordinator Jonathon Grey told the programme.

'Passengers and councils around the country are very unhappy with the way the franchise director has treated them', he said.
