Opinion is split in Northumberland CC's ruling Labour group over whether to privatise the authority's profitable waste disposal company, reported The Journal (Feb 11, p17).

Council leader Ian Swithenbank has pledged that if the company, estimated to be worth up to £12m, is sold, proceeds will be used to revive the economy of the county and create new jobs, the paper reports.
