Oxford City Council has brokered a truce between two warring bus companies in the city, The Daily Telegraph reports (p26).

The price war between the Oxford Bus Company and Thames Transit meant cheap fares for commuters. But it also led to the Go-Ahead Group, which owns the Oxford Bus Company, issuing the first profit warning by a bus operator since deregulation 10 years ago.

The two companies have now agreed a formula that will spell price rises and fewer buses on Oxford's traffic-clogged streets.
