An initiative launched in Milton Keynes aims at enabling the disabled and elderly to travel around the new city, reports BBC Three Counties.

The Duette bicycle is a specially adapted wheelchair pushed from behind by a five gear cycle.

Carmen Caine, of Milton Keynes BC's Sports Action, says the vehicle is easy to assemble, easy to transport, simple for the cyclist to ride and cheap to hire.

It is the ideal way for people to take the disabled or elderly into the countryside on the new town's extensive network of cycleways. It is also safe enough to be ridden on roads and pathways, she added.
