Harry Jones, Labour leader of the Council of Welsh Districts, has put his voice to the reaction against a Welsh Office warning to schools to opt out before council reorganisation, reports the Western Mail (p5).

Mr Jones was reacting against a call from minister Sir Wyn Roberts and urged that all opt outs should be suspended until the new unitary authorities are introduced.

Sir Wyn Roberts was speaking at an education conference in North Wales when he warned schools that their relationship with LEAs could change after April 1995 and urged them to 'ponder' the opportunity to break away from LEA control.
