Anglian Group, the UK's biggest double-glazing company, has said it was reaping the benefits of increased government spending on local authority housing.

The Western Mail (Business, p5) reports that renovations to public sector housing ordered by Labour soon after it came to power were feeding into increased window sales at Anglian.

Chief executive Eddie Boss said: 'Public sector housing is definitely starting to look better.'

Councils are also increasingly taking a wider view on buying materials for housing, putting out larger contracts for longer time periods, striking better bargains and favouring the big suppliers, he said.

Pre-tax profits for the year to 3 April were£30.5m compared with£24m the previous year, beating analysts' forecasts. Turnover was£253.3m, up on£238.4m last year.
