According to a Local Government Management Board report, one in eight council workers are on temporary contracts compared to one in 15 in the private sector. In education, one in five teachers are on temporary contracts, the research revealed.
And almost one in ten council workers have second jobs, twice as many as in the wider economy. Part-time working, flexi-time and other non-standard working patterns are also more common in local authorities. More than one-third of council employees work part-time, and the tend is increasing says the report.
