More than 100 women employees of Middlesbrough BC have won a sex discrimination case against the GMB union.

A tribunal has ruled their union did not represent them adequately in equal pay negotiations with the council, BBC Radio Four's Today programme reported this morning.

The decision could result in total compensation claims of up to£1m. The tribunal found the union had agreed too hastily to a back pay deal for the women, when it was found they were paid significantly less than male colleagues.

The GMB says it will appeal, Today reported.

The tribunal's judgment is available here
