A report out today suggests the government is more ready to fund roads than public transport, reports The daily Telegraph (p10).

54% of bids for roads from local authorities this year have been funded by the department of transport. While just 16% of bids for public transport have been agreed.

The report, by eight leading environmental and transport groups, says that councils will spend 74% of the funds given to them for transport initiatives this year on schemes that will primarily benefit cars and lorries.
