Port Talbot Councillor Clive Owen is leading protests against a proposal by British Steel and Powergen to harness waste heat from the steelworks to generate electricity, reported Wales on Sunday (p4).

The councillor fears the plant will greatly reduce the town's hours of sunlight.

'We are already the butt of all the jokes because we suffer the worst pollution', he says, and whilst the whole community has connections with the steel works, 'there is greater opposition to what is being proposed than ever before'.
