A leading member of Plaid Cymru and former councillor recommended a business associate for a senior post with his authority without declaring his interest to fellow councillors, Wales on Sunday reported (p7).

Clayton Jones was deputy leader of Taff Ely BC when Ian Evans, a partner in two bus companies, was appointed to the council. Evans was first made transport manager, then, with Jones chairing the selection committee, general manager of the Direct Labour Organisation.

The paper reports that Jones informed the chief executive of the connection, but not councillors. Russell Roberts, mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taff Council, which has taken over Taff Ely, is demanding a police investigation.
