A senior South Tyneside MBC Labour councillor will urge his colleagues to sue Conservative party chairman Jeremy Hanley, reports The Journal (p4).

A Tory party election campaign dossier accuses South Shield councillors of discrimination against their wards in the allocation of funds, and of excluding opponents from power using expulsions and intimidation.

In a new attack launched yesterday, Jeremy Hanley accuses the council of abusing public money.

A recent report by the district auditor gives the council a clean bill of health reports The Journal.

Labour group chair Eddie McAtominey says:

'As a Labour controlled council we abhor corruption. The recommendation I will be making to the Labour group executive on Wednesday will be to sue Mr Hanley'.
