The film Natural Born Killers could be banned from screens in Wellingborough, reports BBC Northampton.

A special meeting of the borough council's licensing committee will be held next week to take a decision.

A number of critics and public have claimed the new Oliver Stone film is excessively violent and will lead to copycat crimes. The British Film Classification Board has given it an 18 certificate.

Members of the licensing committee wanted to view the film to see if it should be screened in the town but the film's distributors, Warner Brother, refused to allow a special early screening for councillors.

The committee will now attend the first showing of the film at the Palace cinema on February 24. That will be followed by a meeting at which the councillors will decide whether or not to ban it in the borough.
