Brentwood BC has defended its disclosure of closed circuit television film of a man attempting suicide, saying that it was intended to highlight the effectiveness of CCTV in deterring town centre crime.

The Guardian (October 19, p11) reported that Geoffery Peck, has accused the council of acting outside its powers by publicising the film, and has been given leave to bring a high court action alleging that his privacy was unlawfully invaded.
