Circuses with performing animals are set to be banned from council land in Brightlingsea and wider measures are being pushed for at Tendring DC, reported the East Anglia Daily Times (23 April, p11).

Animal rights protesters lobbied Brightlingsea town councillors to ban performing circus animals when a circus set up on the town's recreation ground. A majority have said they will support the ban.

Protesters are now campaigning for a ban on performing animals on all Tendring DC owned land.
