Landlords are currently seeking farm rent rises of between 25% and 40%, reports Radio 4's Farming Today programme.

The Tenant Farmers' Association is warning its members that even county councils are seeking big increases for farms which were reviewed only three years ago.

Although some farmers have enjoyed good times, TFA chairman Reg Hayden says the economic tide is now turning. He has written to his members in advance of the Michaelmas Review urging them to seek advice from a professional valuer before they tie themselves into increased costs for the next three years.
