Junior environment minister Robert Atkins has called for county councils to take into account the views of possible successor authorities when negotiating waste disposal contracts.

Mr Atkins said that it is particularly important to obtain support for a waste disposal strategy from all the authorities concerned and allow a common view to prevail.
