The new unitary authority of Pembrokeshire will have to pay almost £7,000 for the privilege of using its old coat of arms or risk breaking the law, reports The Western Mail (p1).

The old council arms, lost when the authority was integrated into Dyfed in 1974, is now owned by the College of Arms and has to be bought back.

'It's a ridiculous amount of money to spend on such a small thing, equivalent to about 600 hours of home care,' said Labour group leader, Jackie Lawrence.
