Hertfordshire CC planning director Geoff Steeley has been invited to serve on the board of the National Forest Company which will plant a mosaic of woodlands covering 200 square miles of Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire.

Countryside commissioner and former president of the Country Landowners Association Rodney Swarbrick will be chairman, announced environment secretary John Gummer.

The company will begin business in April this year.
