A Caerphilly CBC social services department employee who admitted downloading pornographic images of children from the internet has received a suspended sentence, reports The Western Mail (p7).

John Winter, an administrative assistant, pleaded guilty to 16 charges of making indecent images of children and asked for 169 similar offences to be taken into consideration.

Cardiff crown court sentenced him to three months in prison suspended for two years. He was also ordered to pay£69 prosecution costs and told he will remain on the sex offenders register for five years.

A spokeswoman for the council said that Winter had been immediately suspended by the authority following his arrest and dismissed following disciplinary action.
