Councils should have their success in promoting race equality built into their score under the comprehensive performance assessment, according to the Commission for Racial Equality.
The CRE has recommended the Audit Commission carry out a ?priority revision? of the CPA to include the promotion of equality among the key indicators of council performance.
The Employers? Organisation and the Improvement and Development Agency must also do more to promote equality, said the CRE.
In its survey released this week, the CRE described the levels of activity among councils as ?relatively good?, with 93% of respondents having completed a race equality scheme and the remainder in the process of completing one.
