Teacher opposition will not stop national curriculum tests, the chief executive of the School Curriculum and Assessments Authority says.
Reported in The Guardian (p9), Nick Tate said grammar and spelling were vital parts of the curriculum and should be tested.
National Association for the Teaching of English secretary Anne Barnes said the tests were 'feeble and misleading' and would not help students.
From next week, around two million children throughout the country will take the tests.
