Officials from Cynon Valley BC have warned that £2.8m of grant aid for private houses may never be spent because applications may not get processed on time, the Western Mail reports (p10).

New Welsh Office rules mean houses must have a second survey before being given any cash, to make sure repairs are within budget.

Cynon Valley BC housing director John Jones said the problems stemmed from a number of factors 'including the introduction of more rigorous assessment procedures, the inadequacy of staff resources and the necessity to carry out a large number of property re-surveys', the paper reports.
