Plaid Cymru members on Rhondda Cynon Taff have asked the district auditor to investigate the legality of costs incurred by councillors and officers who travelled to London to attend a conference to discuss new Labour policies, reports The Western Mail (p3).

The conference was hosted by shadow transport secretary Clare Short. Organisers Neil Stewart Associates say the company has no financial arrangement with the Labour Party about policy conferences.

Rhondda Cynon Taff's Labour leader Bill Murphy said the authority only attended conferences important to its own work: 'It is important for us to hear about government and opposition policies and for our officers to keep abreast with these matters.'
