Ada Burns has been appointed as Darlington BC's new chief executive. Ms Burns, 45, is currently director of neighbourhood renewal at Greenwich LBC, a post she has held since June 2001.

Prior to that she worked for some 18 years in housing, within a variety of settings including the voluntary sector, but since 1991 in local government. She held posts as assistant director of housing in both Greenwich and Croydon with responsibility for policy, capital programmes and regeneration together with a range of support services including human resources.

Ms Burns said: 'Darlington deserves the assessment of excellence in many ways; it's a lovely place with superb access, quality public services and big ambitions. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the council, its partners and the whole community in working to see these realised.'
