Date for health finance discussions 'not agreed yet'

Public health minister Anne Milton (Con) has yet to name a date for an urgent public health summit, which the LGA has been requesting for weeks.

LGC understands that no response was forthcoming to a request for discussions on new arrangements and finance, prompting queries about current progress on Department of Health plans.

Following a reminder from the LGA, a DH spokeswoman said that Ms Milton, left, had “responded to the letter and agreed to meet the LGA but no date has been agreed yet”.

DH is formally committed to offering councils indicative shadow public health budgets for 2012-13, ahead of the April 2013 transfer of public health duties.

One area the LGA is keen for guidance upon is the funding formula likely to be used to work out council budgets and the split between nationally run Public Health England functions and local arrangements.
