Draft directions enabling the Local Government Boundary Commission to make further reviews of the boundaries between Wrexham/Denbighshire and Bridgend/Vale of Glamorgan have been issued for consultation by Welsh secretary Ron Davies.

The reviews would take place for the communities of Ewenny, St Bride's Major and Wick, in the Vale of Glamorgan, and the communities of Llangollen and Llantysilio, in Denbighshire.

The Local Government Boundary Commission carried out an earlier review of some communities on or near the boundaries of Wrexham/Denbighshire and Bridgend/Vale of Glamorgan. However, the directions issued by the then secretary of state prevented the commission from conducting a fuller review.

Mr Davies said: 'I cannot ignore the representations that have been received which say that a more wide-ranging review is needed. In the interests of effective and convenient local government I am, therefore, consulting on draft directions which will enable the Local Government Boundary to undertake a broader review.'
