Following a very successful bidders conference the deadline for submission of bids to run the idea 'markeplace' online shopping mall for councils has been extended.

In response to requests made by some potential bidders at the conference for more time to form consortia, the deadline has been extended to 9am on Monday 16th October 2000.

Over 150 delegates representing over 80 organisations from Europe and North America attended the conference on September 8 in central London.

Gary Richardson, project manger for idea 'markeplace' said, 'We feel that the addition of a few more days will enhance competition without giving an unfair advantage to those who have been tardy in their preparations.'

The Local Government Information House Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of the IDeA is seeking a private sector partner to provide local government with an inclusive, comprehensive, branded e-procurement portal.

The service - idea 'markeplace' will allow participating councils to buy goods and services on-line, saving up to 15% on the combined price of goods and services and the cost of administration.
