Convicted paedophiles should be put under parole for the rest of their lives, according to a plan expected to receive all-party support at Denbighshire CC, reported Wales on Sunday (p8).
People convicted of sex offences against children would have to report regularly to their local police station, notify any change of address, and disclose details of time spent away from home.
The scheme, put forward by the council's chair of social services Glyn Williams, who worked as a prison officer before becoming a residential social worker, will be forwarded to local government associations and MPs.
'A register of paedophiles is necessary but it doesn't go far enough. Measures of the kind I am proposing are very workable and there is no reason why they could not be brought into law very quickly,' said cllr Williams.
