Derbyshire CC is using road signs in English and Welsh to mark roadworks between Ashbourne and Kniveton on the B5035, reports the Western Mail (p1).

A council spokeswoman said contractors from Cheshire who were working on the road were using their own signs.

'Rather than buying twice as many signs just to have English only ones, it makes sense to use the English-and-Welsh ones they have already,' she said.

'We have not had any complaints - most people find it quite amusing. Certainly no-one has taken a wrong turn and ended up in Denbighshire instead of Derbyshire.'
