Firefighters in Derbyshire will be holding their fifth one day strike today over spending cuts, BBC Radio's Today programme reported this morning.

A rally today in Derby - which up to 4,000 fire fighters are expected to attend - would show the resolve not only of local staff but fire fighters across the country, the Fire Brigades Union's chairman told BBC Three Counties.

The union was considering escalating the Derbyshire dispute if it was not solved soon. The likely option is back-to-back nine hour strikes.
