The drive to deregulation must not undermine controls which protect the environment or community health, the Association of District Councils warned the government today.

Joyce Edmond-Smith, the ADC's chair of environment and health said: 'The existing framework of regulations involves a complex set of inter-linking pieces of legislation. We believe that the government's approach could allow important regulations designed to protect health the environment and the consumer to slip through the net.'
