The Newcastle Journal(p6) includes an update on the dismissal by Derwentshire DC of two senior council staff for accessing pornography on the Internet (see LGCNet, p5, INTERNET PORN INQUIRY INTO DERWENTSHIRE OFFICERS). Unison senior regional manager John Slater claims their dismissals are flawed, saying that the council's system for monitoring Internet-use is open to abuse and that there was not conclusive proof of guilt.

Adrian Flanagan and Ian Parr were dismissed from their managerial posts following separate disciplinary hearings on the grounds of gross misconduct. Slater is quoted: 'I am appalled at the way the council has handled these dismissals. It is not the action of a sensible and reasonable employer.'
