Rival developers are competing for the opportunity to redevelop Bracknell town centre, the Financial Times reports (p11).

The tousle between Allied London and Legal & General, both of which are proposing multi-million pound shopping developments, and both of which agree the town can only support one such scheme, is a direct result of the government's clampdown on out-of-town shopping centres, the paper suggests.

'Our main priority is to secure redevelopment of the town centre', said Keith Watson, the council's chief valuer. 'At the moment we are running with L&G'.
