Devon CC has voted to introduce a ban on hunting on 15,000 acres of council land, the Western Morning News reports (15 January, p1).

The council voted by 45 to 38 to impose the ban, the paper says.

But according to the paper the ban will only be imposed on new farm tenants and as only about six of the 160 council owned farms change hands annually it could take nearly 30 years to fully implement the ban across all 1,200 acres.

The WMN adds however that the restriction is to be applied immediately on 3,000 acres of common lands on Dartmoor.
