The future of Preston BC chief executive Geoff Driver is still uncertain following a meeting between council representatives and Mr Driver this week.

Preston leader Valerie Wise has refused to comment on speculation that Mr Driver's position as chief executive is under threat after differences of opinion between the two.

In a statement last week, the council said: 'In accordance with the processes laid down in the relevant conditions of service, contact has been made with the employers' side of the JNC, seeking their assistance in resolving the issue.'

The meeting on Wednesday, at which Association of Local Authority Chief Executives honorary secretary Richard Penn was present, was inconclusive, LGC understands, and further talks will take place.

Mr Driver is on sick leave.
