Greg Harlock was today confirmed as the new chief executive of South Cambridgeshire DC.

Currently the council's director of finance and resources, Mr Harlock, 55, will take up his new role on 1 July. This is a one-year contract, which is renewable by mutual consent. He will succeed John Ballantyne, who is standing down at the end of June after 13 years in the job.

Council leader Sebastian Kindersley said:

'Greg is a highly experienced and dedicated officer who will help the council to strengthen its value for money and services for customers.'

Mr Harlock has worked in local government for 36 years. Having previously served as principal auditor at Cambridgeshire CC, he joined South Cambridgeshire DC in 1987.

Mr Harlock said:

'I am keen to help the council to move forward in the years ahead. In doing so, we will be able to build on the council's many existing achievements, plus the hard work, skill and commitment of our employees. In the period of change that lies ahead, our focus will continue to be on: providing efficient and effective services; being a responsible and caring employer; and, above all, focusing on the hopes and needs of our communities, residents and customers.'
