The district auditor has expressed concern about the high level of overtime paid to Hampshire CC employees. Last financial year it reached £13.5m, reports the Southern Daily Echo (p16).

Instructions to limit overtime have been sent to all departments after it was revealed that some workers were making £10,000 a year extra.

The council, which has a workforce of 33,000 and a wage bill of about £700m a year, has reduced its overtime payments, reports the paper.

High overtime workers include road workers, computer staff, social workers and care assistants.
