The Association of District Councils has attacked the Society of County Trading Standards Officers for 'scaremongering' over the quality of services to be offered by unitaries.

ADC chair Margaret Singh said: 'To threaten the public with conmen, counterfeiters and crooks is blatant scaremongering and these deplorable tactics must stop'.

The ADC claim that consumer organisations and the business interests that they have consulted accept the advantages of delivering all local authority consumer protection services from unitary councils.
