Doncaster MBC chief executive Doug Hale has been suspended on full pay pending an internal investigation into fraud and overspending by some members of the council.

He is taking advice from the Association of Local Authority Chief Executives.

The scope of the inquiry has yet to be finalised but it will look at all aspects of management, the council said.

Director of education Alf Taylor has been appointed acting chief executive.

Mr Hale is the latest person to come under the spotlight after a district auditor's management letter revealed irregularities. The former leader and deputy leader have already resigned.
