Dorset CC’s director for adult and community services has been named as the successor to chief executive David Jenkins who is set to retire later this year after 13 years at the council.

The appointment of Debbie Ward, who has been with the authority for two years, was announced on Thursday by the council who said she would be the first female chief executive of the county.

Leader Angus Campbell (Con) said: “Debbie came to us relatively recently to take over as director for adult and community services and has made huge strides in that area in times of increasing budgetary constraint. She is a hugely capable individual and will continue the tradition of outstanding chief executives serving Dorset CC and the people of Dorset.”

Ms Ward, left, arrived from Reading BC in 2010, where she was corporate director of housing and community care, and previously held roles in environmental health, community and social care.
