Environmentalists have condemned a new draft planning policy for coal mining in Wales, reports The Western Mail (p3).

Welsh planning minister Jon Owen Jones is consulting on the new guidelines but Friends of the Earth Cymru fear it will do little to stop the spread of opencast mining.

The group is also concerned that the document is significantly weaker than similar guidelines produced in Scotland.
