The mayor of Hartlepool expects to be investigated by the Standards Board for England after complaints by councillors that he did not tell the truth when initially confronted over a visit to a strip show.
Stuart Drummond, who was elected mayor after standing as H'Angus the Monkey, was seen drinking in a pub watching a strip show, which some of his council colleagues thought unbecoming for a mayor.
He has since apologised for his behaviour and admitted his visits to the shows featuring teenage strippers, on two successive Sundays, were an 'error of judgment'.
Mr Drummond said: 'It's in the constitution that councillors must report any alleged breaches. They are just doing their duty and I accept that.'
