Dudley MBC has struck an agreement which allows residents to pay council tax bills and rent through PayPoint, the national bill payment network for cash-paying customers.

Council leader Tim Sunter said: 'We know our customers want greater flexibility when it comes to paying council bills. It is no longer acceptable to expect customers to trek to the council payment offices during normal office hours.'

The deal was brokered by the Co-operative Bank. David Dunn, senior manager with the bank, said: 'We are already the leading banker to local authorities and we see this as a way to extend our relationship.'
