Dundee city council has evicted a man from his council home in a crackdown on paedophiles.

The Scotsman (p4) reports that the council says it is prepared to get tough and evict sex criminals who molest children in their neighbourhood.

Dundee housing director Russell Rowbotham, confirmed that a man had been evicted from his home some time ago after a conviction for lewd behaviour towards a youngster.

He said the law provided that anyone living in a house who had been convicted of using it for immoral or illegal purposes had given grounds for recovery of the house.

Mr Rowbotham added that council policy was to include any offences committed in the near neighbourhood.

The Scottish council for Civil Liberties said that councils should tolerate molesters, provide they had proper supervision.

Don Monteith, speaking for Stirling council, told the paper that it had no plans to follow Dundee city council, after one of its tenants was forced out of a bedsit by tenants outraged that a paedophile was living in their community.
