Councillor Ron Dunn, who served on Durham CC for more than a quarter of a century has died.

The Northern Echo (p3) reports that Mr Dunn, who was also a prominent figure in the Durham Colliery Mechanics' Association was a National Union of Miners executive member during the 1984 pit strike began.

Durham CC leader Don Robson said that Mr Dunn was a committed councillor who had represented the people of Blackhall ward well.

'He was never frightened to tackle any issue and there was not a matter that he would not take up in the interests of his constituents. He will be missed.'
