One in three professionals are still willing to send offensive e-mails despite the furore over the Jo Moore scandal, according to a new survey.
SurfControl's NOP new media survey examined the attitudes towards e-mail of 700 professionals from across the public sector, including 100 each from the civil service and local government.
It found that while workers were becoming more wary about e-mails, 52% admitted to finding it hard to resist messages they believed contained dubious material.
The survey said moves had already been made to tackle this with Liverpool City Council encouraging its staff to become less dependent on e-mail (LGC, 16 August).
Steve Purdham, SurfControl's chief executive officer, said the public sector needed to 're-evaluate the way in which it educates its staff' about inappropriate e-mail use.
Partnership for network
Newcastle City Council and Redcar & Cleveland BC are working together to provide their services electronically.
The partnership has been made possible as the two councils use the same network system - Lotus Notes.
Dave Wood (Lab), Newcastle's cabinet member for electronic government, said that while the government's deadline for the delivery of all services online was tight the joint-working was 'positively positioning the councils to take on that challenge'.
Carezone for children's care
Hounslow LBC and Birmingham City Council have been chosen to trial a government-funded social services internet project.
CareZone is an online service that provides a range of new schemes aimed at improving children's care services.
It will provide information about being in care and the help available in a bid to reduce the sense of being alone.
Residents get online rollout
Software specialists Mandoforms will team up with Vale Royal BC to kick start the delivery of services online.
The company will initially rollout a number of internet facilities for financial-related services, such as council tax and housing benefit, for the council's 119,000 residents.
It will also help to introduce community information points and a mobile IT facility to ensure residents in rural areas benefit from the new initiatives.
